“Planting trees, planting magic”

Magical Classroom is committed to the wellbeing of the environment, and we believe it is important to inspire the new generations to take care of it. That is why this year we started our project “Planting trees, planting magic” in Huehuetenango, Quiché, Retalhuleu, and Sololá, and we plan to do it every year with the kids and their facilitators. First, we started educating our children about the importance of taking care of the environment and the water. Then, the fun began and each child started plating their own tree. The planting process was different for the communities, most of the kids planted their trees on their own because of the pandemic. However, for some groups, it was possible to make this activity together.

We obtained some trees thanks to local authorities, local nurseries, and the rest was obtained by Magical Classroom, making it possible to exceed the number of trees we had planned at the beginning. An amount of 500 trees were planted, overcoming the amount of 420 children that are in the program. One of the best parts is the variety of trees used because there was a specific tree species for every community, so it could match with the local ecosystem.

We are so happy that this was possible and hope that we can keep sharing this amazing experience for the next years. Part of educating our kids needs to involve the importance of the environment, so they can lead a better future tomorrow. We are not only planting trees but also awareness and responsibility for the environment.
